Robert “Bob” Michael Willits, 71, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at his home. A visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Bob was born July 15, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert “Fred” and Elizabeth (May) Willits. He graduated from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1971. Bob was united in marriage to Stephanie Ruth Carpenter on November 23, 1974, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He dedicated 30 years to Aegon/Transamerica as the facilities project manager until his retirement in 2018. Bob liked to work, but in his free time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, always rooting for his favorite drivers, Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Stephanie Willits of Cedar Rapids; children, Justin Willits and Joshua Willits; grandchildren, Ashlyn Willits and Kaydence LaKose; sisters, Chris Nordstrom and Linda Simanek; stepmother, Toni Floerchinger; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Willits; mother and stepfather, Elizabeth “Betty Lou” and Rod Newland; and sister, Gayle Olson.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
