Robert “Bob” James Johnson, 63, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at his home. He was born January 8, 1958 at St. John’s Hospital, the son of James and Gertrude McCleery Johnson.
Survivors include his mother, Gertrude Johnson of Springfield; mother of his children, Shelly Johnson of Springfield; daughter, Vicki (Nicholas) Anders of Auburn; two sons, Robert Johnson, Jr. of Springfield and Benjamin (Marissa) Johnson of Ashland; five granddaughters, Elizabeth, Hailey, Hanna, Evelyn, and Faith; three grandsons, Bentley, Hayden and James; two sisters, Patricia Beard of Auburn and Pamela (David) Lowry of Mesa, AZ; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his favorite nurse, Amanda.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Johnson.
Bob graduated from Pleasant Plains High School. He retired from the U.S. Air Force/Air National Guard after 20 years of service as a tech sergeant. He also owned and operated BJ’s Trucking for over 13 years. Bob enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Shadow. He is known for his humor and mischievous antics.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Motorcycles are welcome.
The family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to Safe Haven Hospice for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
