Maysville, Missouri….Robert “Bob” E. Barton, age 98, passed away on August 19, 2024 at Sunset Home in Maysville, Missouri. Bob was born March 25, 1926 near Rae, Missouri to Ralph “Curly” Barton and Edith Mae (Armagost) Barton.
At an early age they moved to Dekalb County where he attended country school at Waldo and then graduated from Union Star High School in 1944. Upon graduation he entered the Army and fought as a rifleman in General George Patton’s Third Army, 71st Division.
After returning home in November of 1946 he started farming and then later became a dairyman. He was proud to serve his country and was an active member of the VFW supporting his country. Bob was an Elder of the Oak Christian Church, accepting the Lord at an early age. He carried a small New Testament in his shirt pocket while serving his country.
On December 26, 1948 he married Idella Harwood. They farmed together and were blessed with three children: Duane Barton, Joyce (Ron) Rogers, Ann (Rod) Budgett.
Bob worked as a field inspector for the FSA after moving to town in 1990. He put up and maintained the road signs for Dekalb County 911. He was a good neighbor and friend and was always ready to give a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Duane; one sister, Lois Steiner-Hutchcraft; and two brothers, Clayton “C.R.” and Russell Barton.
He is survived by his wife, Idella; daughters, Joyce (Ron) Rogers and Ann (Rod) Budgett; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Turner Family Funeral Home in Maysville, with burial immediately following at Amity Cemetery where there will be full military honors.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 ~ 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Citizens Building Fund or Oak Christian Church.
