Robert “Bob” Edward Hunter, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Services: 12 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2025, at Teahen Funeral Home by Father John Seda. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Palo. Friends may visit with the family on Monday beginning at 10 a.m.
Robert is survived by his children, Joseph (Sherry) Hunter, William “Bill” (Kim) Hunter, and Kathy (Charles) Schulte; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Donna) Hunter; sister, JoAnn (Ron) Beavers; and many more family and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeri Kay; son, Jeffrey Hunter; his parents; brother, Jim Hunter; parents-in-law, William and Gladys Petersen; and in-laws, Cheral Thoms, Janice Turner, and Jim Petersen.
Robert was born on February 14, 1941, eldest son of Ed and Genevieve McCoy Hunter. Robert grew up in Boone, Iowa, eventually moving to Clinton, Iowa, where he graduated from Clinton High School. He married the love of his life, Jeri Kay Peterson. Robert was a proud employee of The Chicago and Northwestern Railway and Union Pacific Railroad. He worked for 40 years before retiring in 2003.
Robert was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and celebrating holidays. One of his proudest moments was being inducted into the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame in July of 2006. He also took pleasure in playing golf, swimming, eating pumpkin pie, and walking his cherished pets. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Robert’s family would like to thank his wonderful home care workers, Meagan Colehour and Shauna Gunther; the Mercy ICU staff; and Hospice of Mercy for their loving care of Robert.
