Rita R. Doerfler

Rita Rose Doerfler, 90, of Springfield, Illinois died at 1:30 a.m. on May 6, 2021. She was born July 3, 1930 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph D. and Marie E. Patton. She married James A. Doerfler in 1952 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield.

Rita was a plant and tree enthusiast having taken Horticulture classes at the University of Illinois. A life long learner, she took many adult education classes. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Rita loved her dogs and adopted many over the years. Her greatest devotion was to her six children, providing a supportive and loving environment. She is sorely missed by those kids.

Survivors include sons, David (Karen) Doerfler of Ebony, Virginia, Michael (Becky) Doerfler of Springfield, Steve (Nancy) Doerfler of Sherman, Terry (Susan) Doerfler of Springfield, and Darrin (Dana) Doerfler of O’Fallon; daughter, Merrie Karen (Michael) Hiefner of McKinney, Tx; 17 Grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim), her parents and one brother, Joseph D. Patton.

Per Rita’s request, there will be no service.
