Rita Ann Broeker

Rita Ann Broeker, 90, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital.

She was born January 1, 1931 to Joseph and Anna (Penney) Loeser and was the last surviving child of their eight children.

Rita attended Sacred Heart Academy and Feitshans High School and her passion was roller skating at Moonlight Gardens where she spent most of her free time.  She went to work at Schnepp and Barnes Printing Co. as a bookbinder, retiring in 1993.  It was there she met her future husband, Edward J. Broeker.  They were married February 14, 1953 and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2005.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Louis, Stuart, Edgar, Howard, Allen, and James Loeser; and sister, Lorraine Matulevich.

Survivors are her daughter, Debbie (Jim) Hendrickson; granddaughter, Lindsey (Derek) Leonard; grandson, Craig Hendrickson and great-grandsons, Blake and Austin Leonard; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rita’s greatest asset was her devotion to her family, especially her grandkids and two great-grandsons that she loved spending time with.  Her favorite pastime was attending their ballgames and other activities.   She will be dearly missed.

Visitation: 11:30 – 12:30 PM, Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 12:30 PM, Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
