Rick L. Loring
Iowa City
Rick L. Loring, 64, of Iowa City, passed away on September 9, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospital – Downtown.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course Clubhouse in Iowa City.
Rick was born on March 16, 1960, in Norwalk, California to Claude “Crick” and Phyllis (Smiley) Loring. The family moved to Keokuk, Iowa and Rick graduated from Keokuk High School in 1978. After obtaining his associate’s degree from Southeast Community College, Rick spent most of his career working at IAC. He retired in 2020 after 36 years.
On July 1, 2006, Rick married Pam Palmer in Las Vegas. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.
When Rick met Pam, he saw that she was a package deal and couldn’t have been more excited. Not only did he get a wife, but he gained a daughter. Rick was the best husband, stepfather and Papa around! We will forever miss all the rounds of Go Fish, Uno, Checkers, and Hide and Seek. We will miss you Papa but know that you are ALWAYS looking down! We love you.
Rick is survived by his mother, Phyllis; wife, Pam; brother, George (Juanita) Loring; stepdaughter, Amber (Chris) Grabin; grandchildren: Stormy Bauwens and Logan, Bryten, and Zaiden Grabin; nieces: Ashley and Courtney Loring, his uncle, Roger Loring; his aunt, Linda Cluskey and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Claude “Crick” as well as numerous aunts and uncles and his dear friend, Jeff “Biff” Hanan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rick Loring Memorial Fund and online condolences may be shared at www.lensingfuneral.com.
