Richard “Wayne” Compton, 73, of Mansfield, Ohio peacefully passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on October 21, 1947 to the late Richard and Beulah (Tucker) Compton.
Richard was a Vietnam Veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Army. He was a hard worker and retired from CSX Railroad after working over 35 years. Richard was quiet, but had a great sense of humor. He loved to gamble and travel to casinos. He was an avid fan of sports, especially of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns and Indians. Richard loved spending time with his family as they meant everything to him. He was sure to take care of both his family and friends and cherished the many memories they shared.
Richard is survived by his wife, Linda Compton; son, Rick (Loretta) Compton; daughter, Melissa (Emmett) Love; five grandchildren, Chelsea (Spencer) Hartings, Colton (Jocelyn) Compton, Cody (Kristen) Fultz, Hailey Fultz and Savannah Love; sister, Sandra Caudill; brother, Dennis Compton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Rose Compton; and three sisters, Marilyn Kirk, Linda Stout and Gail Keiser.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902. A funeral service will follow thereafter beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Phillips officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery.
