Richard V. “Dick” McDowell, 91, of Edgebrook, passed away on December 29, 2021. Beloved husband of the late Joanne C. “Jody”; loving brother of Donald “Don” (Faye) and the late Edward; cherished father-uncle of Jennifer (Rich) Moore, Amy Giustino and Jeffrey (Veronica) Giustino; dearest grandfather-great uncle of Lilian, Emilia, and Dylan. Dear uncle to many. Dick will be deeply missed by many friends, family and neighbors and remembered for his gentle spirit, sense of humor, and genorosity. He was an active member of the 39th Ward and proudly and thoughtfully served as a volunteer member of the 39th Ward zoning board. As an architect Dick cared deeply about his community. He also designed the first one-story firehouse for the City of Chicago, which became the standard for firehouses across the country as it saved the firefighters valuable time when responding to a call. Visitation Monday, January 3rd, 2022, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago, where a funeral service will be held beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
