Richard T. Studer

Beloved father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, Richard T. Studer, age 98, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2022 at The Grove in Columbus, OH. Richard “Dick” Studer was born on December 20, 1923, in North Auburn, OH to Thomas and Laura (Alt) Studer. He was one of nine children. After graduating from Lykens High School in 1942, he proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII in Texas as an aircraft mechanic. Dick and Dorothy (Miller) were married on May 3, 1947, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church near Attica and marked their 73rd wedding anniversary in 2020.

 

After WWII, Dick operated a filling station in Mansfield, and then became employed at Tappan, retiring after 35 years. He loved planting seeds and was known for his flourishing vegetable gardens. He could quickly fix any type of machine, big or small, as well as anything at all that was not working. Dick was an expert carpenter who made decorative wooden crafts which he and Dorothy sold at various craft shows around Ohio. In his free time he enjoyed, jigsaw puzzles, playing Euchre, reading letters and cards from family and friends, and making rosaries for missionary distribution.

 

Surviving family members include three children: Suzanne (Joyce Grimes) Studer of Westerville, Thomas Studer of Mansfield and Jackie (Richard) Kerns of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Tom (Amanda) Studer of Burlington, KY, Adam (Felicia) Studer of Mansfield, Lynn (Jay) Brown of Rising Sun, and Lauren (Chad) Hamons of Mansfield; twelve great-grandchildren; sister: Aggie Hocker of Centerville; brothers: Donald (Sandy) Studer of Medina, Jerry (Donna) Studer of Ontario, Glenn (Deb) Studer of Attica; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; beloved daughter, Diane Studer; sisters, Joan Miller, Pauline Ziegler, Alice Weisenauer, and Freda Bishop of Mansfield; very special daughter-in-law, Sherry (Tom) Studer; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Niedermier; brothers-in-law, Benny Niedermier, Art Weisenauer, Don Hocker, Nick Ziegler, Raymond, Norman and Herman Miller; niece, Connie Miller; and nephews, Jim Bordner and Michael Niedermier.

 

Dick was a longstanding member of St. Peter’s Parish. He was soft-spoken, kind and gentle, a man of God, and will be greatly missed by all.

 

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 104 W. 1st St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902-2199. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monsignor Dunn Scholarship Fund at St. Peter’s Parish or charity of choice.
