Richard “Dick” Lynn Hart, Sr., 73, of Swisher, Iowa, passed away suddenly surrounded by his family Saturday, September 21, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial will take place at Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, Iowa.
Dick was born February 16, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert and Myrtle (Wyatt) Hart. After high school graduation, he attended Kirkwood Community College where he received his A.A. degree in computer science. Dick served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1969 – 1973, during Vietnam where he was a survival instructor for Navy and Marine pilots. On February 9, 1970, Dick was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Kinney in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Kirkwood for 30 years as a computer programmer until his retirement in 2005. Dick was a hardcore fan of the Hawkeyes, Bears and Cubs, and was a closet Chargers fan. He was an experienced traveler and music enthusiast. Dick enjoyed collecting CD’s and vinyl records.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Hart; children, Richard (Lisa) Hart, Jr., and Stacy (Noah) Lawrence; grandchildren, Camryn (Britt), Dylan, and Payton; great-granddaughter, Ryla, and soon to be great-grandson, Baylor; siblings, Robert (Brenda) Hart, and Edward (Tina) Hart; and his dog, Maisy.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Myrtle; sisters, Carol Carlson, and Sally Evers; and his aunt, Ruby Chapman.
