Richard “Dick” Fowler, 76, of Swisher, died Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center, in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2025, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon, upper level, located at 100 South Cedar Street. Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Brosh Chapel in Solon, where full military rites will be conducted. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Anderson Cemetery, Swisher.
Richard was born on September 1, 1948, in Iowa City, the son of Donald Cyrus and Iona Leola (Clemmons) Fowler. He attended Jefferson Township schools, in rural Shueyville, and graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School. Richard served in the United States Army, as a proud member of the 101st Airborne, during the Vietnam War. He worked at Collins Radio, United States Postal Service in Cedar Rapids, McKee Enterprises, and for the past twenty-five years as a correctional officer at the Oakdale Correctional Facility. He served as the Vice President of the DOC Union for many years as well as a long-time advocate for Donald Trump. Dick enjoyed riding Harleys, drinking beer, weightlifting, boxing, taking vacations to the mountains, camping, boating, watching Star Trek and Doctor Who, and most of all spending time with family and friends. He liked to “style and profile” like the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, and was aka “Dickster”.
He is survived by his sons Aaron Cyrus Fowler (Jessica Fennern) and Jeff Fowler; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sister Virginia “Ginny” Wharton; good friend John Reynolds; longtime companion Miss Betsy; first wife Monica Emerson; his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-in-law Angie Fowler, his brother-in-law and good friend Charles Emerson, second wife Jackie, and his dog Bear.
