Richard Dean Garabrandt

Richard Dean Garabrandt, 88, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021 in The Inn at Northwood Village at Dover following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Thomas H. and Eliza Jane (Medley) Garabrandt, Richard was born January 19, 1933 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.
On June 6, 1950, he enlisted with the United States Navy and honorably served his country during the Korean War. Richard received his honorable discharge on December 19, 1953.
On May 19, 1956, Richard married the love of his life, the former Dixie Murphy, and they raised one son. The couple shared 55 years of marriage prior to Dixie’s passing on October 30, 2011.
Richard retired from Union Camp at Dover where he worked for 30 years. Following his retirement he was employed part-time at Walmart in New Philadelphia. Richard was a former member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 and also formerly attended NewPointe Community Church at Dover. He was an airplane enthusiast and he enjoyed spending time at Harry Clever Airport at New Philadelphia. Richard was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter #1077.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jody (Devine) Garabrandt of Tuscarawas: his granddaughters, Tamra (Brian) Wells of New Philadelphia and Amanda (Tyson) Croniser of Midvale; his great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Katelyn Wells and Liam and Sophia Croniser and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by numerous siblings.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, services will be private and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
