Richard D. Shaffer
October 11, 1925 – December 24, 2021
Richard David Shaffer, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully Friday morning,
December 24, 2021, at Carolina Village.

A native of Franklin, PA, he was a son of the late Oliver Gerald and Clara June Brown
Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marian Edith Thomas Shaffer,
whom he married in 1946 in Miami, FL; his brother David Lee Shaffer; his sister Colleen
Marie Shaffer; and by great-grandson Christian Padrnos. He had lived in Henderson
County since 1983. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather who
was cherished by all. He was a retired college professor and a World War II veteran.

He is survived by three sons, Stephen David Shaffer and his wife Laura of White Sulphur
Springs, MT; Daniel Lee Shaffer of Tallahassee, FL; David Paul Shaffer and his wife
Megan of Hendersonville; one daughter, Suzanne Lynette Shaffer Catone of Mooresville
NC; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren
and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 6, 2022, in the chapel at Forest Lawn
Funeral Home. Reverend Ethan Brown will officiate. Burial will follow the service at
Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 pm at the funeral
home.
