Cameron, Missouri…Rex Leon Howell, age 89 , entered his final rest on May 14, 2024. He was born April 14, 1935, in Carmack, Missouri, the son of Carl and Doris Elizabeth (Gregory) Howell.
He married Lynda Carter on May 20, 1957, and to this union three sons were born. They spent 33 wonderful years together until her passing in 1991. On August 28, 1993, he married Joan Mallen, she preceded him in death. They were together 30 years.
In 1955 he entered the United States Air Force, serving until 1964. His time in service was spent as a Coder (breaker and sender) for incoming and outgoing messages. He served in locations vital to national interests including Hawaii, Louisiana during the Bay of Pigs, Alaska during the Cuban missile crisis, and California. He worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a transportation clerk until his retirement.
He was a member of Culbertson Chapel in Stewartsville and the American Legion 508. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, and playing cards.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Lynda; 2nd wife, Joan; and daughter-in-law, Yvonne Howell.
He is survived by his sons, Robert (Stacey) Howell, David Howell, Steve Howell; stepchildren, Beth (Rick) Singleton, Barry (Rita) Mallen, Keith Mallen, Kevin (Tammy) Mallen; brother, Don Howell; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Turner Family Funeral Home in Stewartsville, with burial immediately following at Lebanon Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon Cemetery or Missouri Veterans Home Cameron.
