Rev. Patrick Lumsden, 78, formerly of Iowa City, went home to God on December 29, 2024. He was better known as “Father Pat.” Pat was a priest of the Diocese of Davenport.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with a vigil service following at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Most Rev. Dennis Walsh, Bishop of Davenport officiating. Priests of the diocese will be the concelebrant.

Father Pat was born on August 28, 1946, in Iowa City to Richard and Mary Lumsden. He is survived by one brother, Michael (Carol) Lumsden of Indianapolis, Indiana and one sister, Kathy of Davenport as well as one nephew, Sean.

Father Pat lived in Iowa City most of his life until leaving for seminary in 1990. He served his country in the Army with one year in Vietnam. After his stint in the service, he returned to Iowa City working at UniBank & Trust in Coralville, State Bank & Trust in Iowa City and the University of Iowa in various departments for 16 years.

During these years he served the community of Iowa City in the Jaycees. He was the 50th president of the Iowa City Jaycees. He also served in numerous offices of the Iowa Jaycees and ran for president of the Iowa Jaycees. Pat received numerous awards while in the Jaycees; among them was being selected a Jaycee International Senator and named twice as an “Outstanding Young American” by the U.S. Jaycees. Pat was also involved in the Knights of Columbus for 12 years, serving as Grand Knight for two of those years and also as a chaplain. Father Pat became the statistician for the City High football team for 21 years and as Mississippi Valley Conference statistician for three years.

Father Pat’s service to God began in 1988 after being ordained a deacon for St. Mary’s in Iowa City. He attended Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin and Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he earned his B.A. and Master of Divinity degrees. He was ordained a priest on January 20, 1996. He served as a parochial vicar at Holy Family in Davenport (1996-1998); as parochial vicar of SS. John and Paul in Burlington, SS. Mary and Patrick in West Burlington and St. Mary’s in Dodgeville, Iowa (1998-2000). He became pastor of St. Mary’s Dodgeville; St. Mary’s in Wapello and St. Joseph’s in North English and St. Joseph’s in Columbus Junction (2000-2004). Pat became pastor of St. Joseph’s in North English and St. Joseph’s in Parnell (2004-2009). He then became pastor of St. Patrick’s in Georgetown, St. Peter’s in Lovilia and St. Patrick’s in Melrose (2009-2016).
