Raymond “Ray” E. Eilers

Raymond “Ray” E. Eilers, Jr. of Springfield, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born March 15, 1938 in Springfield, to Raymond “Bud” Sr. and Margaret Reader Eilers that preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Shane (Connie) Eilers of Kathleen, GA and Dirk (Gayle) Eilers of Springfield; two grandchildren, Justin (Karcyn) Eilers and Colton (Meagan Gonyon) Eilers; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Landon with a third, Teagan, on the way.
Ray had been employed by the State Bureau of Traffic and the Secretary of State Corporation Department. He then went on to retire from CILCO in 1996, where he worked as a Corrosion Engineer for 29 years. He was a past member of the National Assoc. of Corrosion Engineers and a life member of the TRN Club.
Raymond served with the IL National Guard 108th Ordinance Co. until March 27, 1964.
Raymond enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes, gambling and playing cards. He loved watching his kids and grandkids playing their sports and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Cremation will be accorded by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Private family services will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
