Raymond J. Donato

Raymond J. Donato, 92, of Strasburg, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in New Dawn Retirement Centre at Dover.
Born in Dover, he was the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (D’agnone) Donato and a 1946 graduate of Dover High School. Ray enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Ray started working for the former Nickel Plate Railroad and retired as a dispatcher after 33 years from Norfolk & Western Railroad.
Ray was a member of the United Methodist Church at Strasburg; the Strasburg American Legion Post 522 and New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445.
Ray is survived by his wife, Marguerite M. (Strauss) Donato of Dover; three daughters, Kathryn (Charles) Dimon of Strasburg, Julia (Mike) Renner of Beach City, Cynthia (Dane) Smith of Strasburg; a son, Daniel (Kathy) Donato of Strasburg; nine grandchildren, Robert, Adam and Phil Renner, Chip and Kristal Dimon, Pierce Smith, Amy, Sara and Mic Donato and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, a great grandson, Reece Dimon; a sister, Dorothy Mason and two brothers, Anthony and Robert Donato are also deceased.
In keeping with Ray’s wishes, a private family graveside service is to be held in Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating and where the Strasburg American Legion Post 522, will conduct military honors.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Ray’s honor to the Charles Hofer Post 522, P.O. Box 11, Strasburg, Ohio 44680.
