A visitation will begin at 10:00 am in the Chapel. Burial will follow with military honors. Please join the family for a luncheon at the Family Center.

He was born May 21, 1954, in rural Palo, Iowa and was one of four children to Leo & Beverly Rula. Randy graduated from Linn Mar High School in 1972 and proceeded to serve in the Air Force from 1972-1976.

At this point, Randy returned to Cedar Rapids where he landed his life-long career of 40 years for Rexco Power Equipment as a mechanic specializing in cranes and excavators. He was a skilled mechanic and well-respected by all in his field. Rexco was where Randy met his wife, Julie. On April 24, 1982, Randy and Julie united in marriage, blending their young families to become one and would ultimately lead to a lifetime of love and companionship.

Randy was a devoted husband and father, who enjoyed many hobbies over his lifetime. In the early years, he not only bowled on a local league, but he also joined a volleyball league with Julie. Time spent with the family was important to Randy. Yearly family vacations to Lake of the Ozarks resulted in decades of memories for his wife, children and grandchildren. Boating on the lake there and in Coralville Lake were Randy’s favorite spots to take his family. Tinkering in the garage and the kitchen delighted Randy and resulted in handcrafted keepsakes and many memorable dishes that his family loved. It was also evident that being born and raised on a farm kept with Randy, for year after year, he had beautiful perennial gardens and bountiful vegetable gardens that he and Julie enjoyed tending to together.

Randy is survived by his wife of 42 years, Julie; stepdaughter, Lisa (Jerry) Huggins; stepson, Randall (Ivy) Hinrichs; daughter, Brandy (Chris) McDonough; stepgrandchildren, Holly, Henry, Marvin, Willow; grandsons, Nate and Carson; sisters, Brenda (Randy) Lane, Belinda (Darden) Caylor; brothe- in-law, Jon Eige; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his brother, Robert in 1994, and his parents, Leo in 1994 and Beverly in 2016.

In lieu of flowers, Randy’s wishes, inspired by his beloved rescue dog, Molly, were to give all animals forever homes through the ASPCA.
