Randall “Randy” Arthur Leeper

Randall Arthur Leeper, 72, of Springfield died on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on May 15, 1948 in Canton, IL to Jerold Frank and Eleanor Mae (Linn) Leeper. He married Susan Eileen Kinsella on May 24, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Daniel Leeper of Springfield; mother, Eleanor Leeper of Montrose, CO; sister, Jean Leeper of Montrose, CO; two brothers, Leon (Joanne) Leeper of Montrose, CO and Lindell (Jamie) Leeper of Smithfield, IL; sister-in-law, Alice Leeper of Ouray, CO and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Larry Leeper.

Randy grew up in Farmington, IL on the family farm. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1966, 3rd in his class. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Illinois-Champaign, majoring in agronomy. He attended NC State working towards his Doctorate Degree. He was proud of his soil judging achievements in his high school and college years. He worked as a soil scientist for the U.S.D.A Natural Resource Conservation Service and retired after 30 years. Randy was a Life Master with the duplicate bridge national organization (ACBL) and had accumulated over 2300 master points. One of his greatest achievements was running in the St. Louis marathon in 1990 finishing in 4 hours and 19 minutes. He was an avid reader and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Memorial Gathering: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Adlai Stevenson Dr., Springfield.

Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Church at Little Flower with Reverend Allen Kemme officiating. Burial will be at Providence Chapel in Farmington, IL at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Illinois Food Bank.
