Ralph A. Schleyhahn, Jr., 91, of Hillsboro died Saturday, December 12, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. He was born March 5, 1929 in Gardner Township, IL to Ralph A. and Ruth Stroud Schleyhahn, Sr. He married Kathy Klump on February 18, 1992 and she survives.
Also surviving are five children, Roger (Michelle) Schleyhahn of Springfield, Diane (Tony Snow) Lauterbach of Staunton, Ralph (Ann) Schleyhahn III of Naples, FL, Ruth (Scott) Andrews of Staunton, and Robert (companion, Abbigail Butcher) Schleyhahn of Ft. Lewis-McChord, WA; two grandchildren, Mikel (companion, Stormy DuFrain) Andrews of Staunton and Chelsea (fiancé, Katie May) Andrews of Edwardsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Loren “Ike”, Paul and Donald “Ozzie” Schleyhahn and one sister, Betty Schleyhahn.
Ralph was a United States Army Veteran, serving in Korea and earned three Bronze Service Stars.
Ralph was a new and used car salesman at various car dealerships in Springfield and was lot manager for Shaner’s Towing in Springfield.
He loved his kids and grandkids; going to casinos; his dogs and NASCAR. He was an avid Illini football and basketball fan.
Private services will be held with Rev. Curtis Stanbery officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sangamon County Animal Control.
