Portia A. Bowman

Portia A. Bowman, 88, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Crystal Care Center of Mansfield after a short illness. She was born August 2, 1933 in Ashland, Ohio to Glenn G. and Anna Marie (Glenn) Smith.
A graduate of Ashland High School and Mansfield General School of Nursing, Portia was an RN for over 40 years. She loved nursing and worked in hospitals, doctor offices, teaching, ER and finished her career in Public Health nursing. She received the Richland County Health Department Employee of the Year Award.
Portia loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was always helpful to others, and she enjoyed baking, gardening, playing Euchre at the VFW, crossword puzzles and many bus travel trips with her husband. One of her favorite vacations was the white water rafting trip when she was in her 60’s. Portia attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ontario.
Portia is survived by daughter, Rhonda Butke (Mull); son, Steve Mull; grandchildren, Monika, Eric and Kristina Butke; brothers, Wendell (Judy) Smith and Lawrence Smith; sister, Janet (Jerry) Shearer; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobe Bowman; parents, Glenn G. and Anna Marie Smith; and brothers, Wayne and Kenneth.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 South Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902. Calling hours will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to OhioHealth Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
