Phyllis Joann Adams Merritt, 79, of Riverton, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at her home. She was born August 24, 1941, in Springfield, to Kenneth Oscar and Annabell Runkles Adams. She married Donald E. Merritt on June 6, 1959, celebrating 62 years and he survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Cindy (Scott) Keafer of Riverton, Emma Lorraine (Eric) Cress of Riverton, Eugenia Lynne Koonce of Springfield and Kayko Joann (Tony) Carrillo of Los Angeles, CA; one son, Roger (Ashley) Bearden of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother Richard Homer Adams of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Leroy Adams; and one nephew, Kenneth Richard Adams.
Phyllis attended Cowden High School in IL. She was a member of Riverton Christian Church where she was very involved with the Drama Team, Gospel Night and Kids Club. She was a member of TOPS and after the weight loss became a member of KOPS and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Phyllis worked as a nursing assistant for ten years at St. John’s Hospital and as a secretary for Riverton Christian Church for three years.
Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm, Monday, June 21, 2021, at Riverton Christian Church.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Monday, June 21, 2021, at Riverton Christian Church with Pastor Brian Atwell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riverton Christian Church Youth Fund.
