Phyllis Irene Winkler

Phyllis Irene Winkler, 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at her home following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Alexander “Ike” and Mayme Lou (Beard) Ritenour, Phyllis was born November 26, 1935 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Midvale High School and was retired from Country Club Retirement Center. Following retirement, she served as a Foster Grandmother for the New Philadelphia City School District as well as for Dover Headstart.

In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed coloring, watching westerns, listening to country music and Elvis on her radio, playing board games and spending time with her family and pet cat.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Sue) Winkler; granddaughters, Amanda Wright and Angela Arnett along with several other grandchildren; a great-granddaughter who was also her caregiver and best friend, Alyssa (Christopher) Mull and several other great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; her siblings, Evelyn Shutt, Shirley Winkler and Donald Ritenour; several nieces and nephews and her longtime companion, her pet cat, Sally Ann.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Winkler; her children, David Winkler, Cheryl Wright, Daniel Winkler and Jeffery Winkler; a sister, Donna Androsky and a brother, Joseph Ritenour.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Avenue, Dover, OH 44663. A funeral service celebrating Phyllis’ life will take place on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Lisa Elliot officiating. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow the services.
