Peter Rees Stenz

Peter Rees Stenz

Peter Rees Stenz, 11, of Sherrodsville, gained his Angel wings on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Canton, Ohio on October 22, 2010, he was a son of Daniel and Krisann (Downing) Stenz.

Peter was an Honor Roll student at Tuscarawas Valley Middle School.  He was also named the 2021-2022 Student of the Year by the Ohio Middle Level Association.

He was an active child who had many interests, including Legos, Star Wars, Harry Potter, camping and hunting.  Peter was an “old soul”, because of his love of reading, vinyl records, and music, especially the Beatles, and liked to share his love of their music.  Peter’s extensive collection of joke books allowed him to share laughter and smiles with everyone around him.  He was recently granted a hunt of a lifetime through the HOAL Foundation and was able to successfully harvest an elk.

Peter is survived by his parents; his brother, Max; grandparents, Harold “Bud” and Colleen Downing of Sherrodsville and Lothar and Katharina Stenz of Senheim, Germany; uncles and aunts, Johannes and Christina Schweppenhaeuser, Eric and Christa Downing, Lon Downing and Bethany Downing; cousins, Braden, Bryce, Adalynn and Easton Downing; and two special “aunts”, Ursula Porten-Bergmann and Kimberly Mulheman; and many friends and family.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Chaplain Matt Tweedle will officiate his Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2022 in the Funeral Center.  Friends are also invited to visit with the family on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.  When attending either service please feel free to dress casual and colorful in Peter’s memory.  A private family burial will follow at a later time in Roxford Church Cemetery at Dennison.

Peter was known for giving back and often shared the #Peterstrong.  The family wishes to thank each one who helped to touch Peter’s life and they know that there are many who will never be known. However, they would like to especially recognize Akron Children’s Hospital, Tuscarawas Valley School District and community, Roxford United Methodist Church, The Ronald McDonald House of Akron, the Radiation Department of Akron General Hospital, Wishes Can Happen of Canton, Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation, Cassidy’s Hope Foundation, Stephen Strawn and Bob Mohr and many other foundations and individuals.

In keeping with Peter’s generous heart, the family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be directed in Peter’s name to Wishes Can Happen of Canton, PO Box 9428 Canton, OH 44711.
