Peter “Pete” Joseph King, 77, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at St. Luke’s Helen G. Nassif Transitional Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Private Family Graveside Service, with military honors, will be held at Urbana Memorial Cemetery in Urbana, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 9:30 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. Pete’s brother-in-law, Steve Lounsberry, will officiate.

Pete was born on December 9, 1946, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Jack and Mary (Yarembinsky) King, who made their home on a farm outside of Urbana. He was a 1965 graduate of Urbana High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1970. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Star. On August 5, 1972, Pete was united in marriage to Janet Kay Lounsberry in McCallsburg, Iowa.

For two years, Pete taught high school prior to becoming an Insurance Underwriter with United Fire and Casualty for the majority of his career, retiring in 2009. He was very proud of UNI and was a member of their UNI Panther Scholarship Club. Pete was also a member of the Linn-Mar Booster Club, having spent over 30 years as a volunteer managing the concession stands. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Pete will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pete is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Janet; two sons, Nathan (Sally) King of Kansas City, Missouri, and Zachary (Rhonda) King of Banks, Oregon; five grandchildren, McKenna, Fisher, Mason, Adeline, and Molly; brother, Russell (Camille) King of Lakewood, Illinois; and a host of extended family members, including in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary King, and brother, Philip King.
