Pauline Jean Oberlin
Pauline Jean Oberlin, 89, of Mansfield, went to rest with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 21, 2021. She is joyfully reunited with her husband, Jack, who passed away on October 14, 2021.
She was born October 11, 1932, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Anna (Nadason) and James Christoff. Jean was a lifelong homemaker who also worked as a bookkeeper alongside her son, Jim, at Oberlin Properties. Raising five children, she had a love for cooking and was especially excited when she could share a meal with her family long after her children were grown. Jean was an amazing cook who could make literally any dish. Her special saying, “Let’s put it this way” was uttered many times over the years. She attended Crossroads Community Church.
Jean enjoyed crocheting in her free time. She was a member of Grubaugh Mothers Club in her younger years. Camping with her husband was one of her favorite activities. Bitten just a little by the gambling bug, she enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets, going to the casino and playing Bingo. While she may never had hit the “big one”, she enjoyed trying her luck.
Jean is survived by a large family including her son, Jim (Libby) Oberlin; two daughters, Julie (David) Murphy and Jayne Baker; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Murphy, David Murphy Jr., Christopher Murphy (Pauline Kotapka), Hannah Oberlin, Jimmy Baker Jr., Jennifer Burke, William Burke II, Erica (Cody) Newton and Jack (Kalee) Oberlin III; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia (Bruce) Tipton; a son-in-law, Bill Burke; a daughter-in-law, Shelley Oberlin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jack Carlton Oberlin Sr.; daughter, Judy Burke; son, Jack Oberlin Jr.; and sister, Mitch Davey.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
