Patsy Bethard

Patsy Bethard, 77, of Springfield, died at 5:12 pm, Monday, March 22, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on June 11, 1943 in Springfield to Joseph Matthew and Jacqueline (Gardner) Hess. She married Donald H. Bethard in 1980.

She is survived by her husband, Don; one son, Jack (Sally) Pitts of Springfield; two grandchildren, Jacqueline McKinzie Graves and Katelyn Katree Graves; two great grandchildren, Bella and James Graves; three step- children, Mike Bethard of Springfield, Jerry Bethard of Chatham and Theresa “Teri” (Bruce) Selway of Jacksonville, IL; one sister, Anna Brandenburg of Springfield; two brothers, Walter “Hambone” Hess of NC and Jerry (Nancy) Hess of Champaign, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Anna Graves; three sisters and three brothers.

Patsy retired from the State of Illinois House of Representative as a custodian. She formerly drove a bus for the Springfield Mass Transit District.

She loved working in her yard, planting flowers, sewing and cooking for her family and going to garage sales. She worked hard her whole life to support her family and give them a good life.

She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister.

At her request, no services will be held. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
