Patti was born January 19, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the fourth of seven children born to Virgel “Bud” Sr. and Melsena (Spicer) Fritz. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Hamilton Business College, where she earned her associate’s degree in business administration.

Patti’s early career included companies like Kirkwood Community College, Collins Radio, People’s Savings Bank, and the Linn County Treasurer’s Office, where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. Later in her career, Patti worked as a data processer at the ever-changing insurance conglomerates of Aegon, Life Investors Insurance Company of America, and Transamerica Insurance Company until she retired in 2017.

Patti is survived by daughter, Tina Rae (Fritz) and husband, Kevin Schoner of Neenah, Wisconsin; granddaughter, Rachel Rae (Edwards) and husband Anthony Doyle of Brookfield, Illinois, who blessed Patti with two great-grandsons: Diarmuid and Alastair; grandson, Kyler Fritz (Schoner) Tellier and wife Madeline Koolbeck of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and stepdaughter, Tammy Zimmerman and husband Mark Cutler of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Also surviving Patti are siblings, C. Joan McGaffic of New Braunfels, Texas and Charles Fritz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; as well as an extraordinary 145 beloved descendent nieces and nephews who cared deeply for their Aunt Patti.

Patti cherished spending time with her family. Her home was a place of love, laughter, and plenty of malarky. She always had a deck of cards, dominoes, and a cribbage board at the ready. She loved to camp, fish, and go berry picking with her family. She enjoyed gambling with her daughter and bingo nights with her friends. No matter what tangled, messed-up, crazy-ass situation you were in, you were sure to find solace and unconditional love in a conversation with Patti.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Merle “Tootie” Geiger (Don), Martin Fritz (Linda), Virgel “Bud” Fritz, Jr. (Cindy), and Penny Trask (Randy); and brother-in-law Paul McGaffic.

We will cherish the memories of Patti and keep them in our hearts forever.
