Patricia “Pat” Kay Petty, 78, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Mechanicsville Specialty Care in Mechanicsville, Iowa. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Central City American Legion Hall, Post 421, located at 6 Central City Road, in Central City. A private inurnment for the family will take place at a later date at Hazel Knoll Cemetery in Central City.

Pat was born on September 6, 1946, to Leo and Dorothy (Slinker) Mowery at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family moved to Liscomb, Iowa, when she was 5 years old. They later moved to Cedar Rapids’ Rompot Neighborhood, where she started 8th grade and attended McKinley Junior High. She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in 1964. Pat was united in marriage to Larry John Petty on September 26, 1964, at the Calvin United Presbyterian church. To this union, three children were born: Tamara Marie, and twins: Benjamin Leon and Andrea June. Pat worked for Collins Radio, until after their first daughter was born. They lived on Otis Road in the Rompot area until December of 1972, when they completed building their new home at Matsells Park on the Wapsipinicon River near Viola.

Pat was a homemaker, until all the children were back in school. She worked at Jack’s department store, Distinctive Packaging, and had her own house cleaning business. Pat also typed for Smulekoff’s Furniture Store for seasonal mailers. She helped Larry with other business adventures. Pat was active in Camp Fire with her daughters, also helped her husband with their son’s Boy Scouts. She loved the outdoors and was very knowledgeable with plants, birds, and trees. Pat also had a green thumb and made gardening look easy. She was a member of the Wapsi Auxiliary Post 421. Pat will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Pat is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Tamara (Bruce) Neal of Central City, Iowa, Benjamin (Aundrea) Petty of Eldridge, Iowa, and Andrea (Nephi) Jones of Brookings, South Dakota; grandchildren, Leslie (Winston) Veatch – Army National Guard, Danica, Liam, and Blythe Jones, Larry Petty – Navy Seabee, Alan Petty – United States Marines Corps, Benjamin Petty, and Johnathan (Victoria) Megrew; sister, Carol McNamara; one brother, Lyle Mowery; sisters-in-law, Mary Sotelo, and Judy White; great-aunt, Emily Dvorak; and multiple cousins in the central Iowa area.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband, Larry John Petty; and one brother, Clarence Mowery.
