Patricia M. (Harrington) Day, 86, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Pat was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 21, 1936. Pat graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1955. She worked in administration at Collins where she met her husband, Dennis, and was married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Aug. 8, 1959. Pat and Dennis enjoyed a 63 year marriage and had four children: Kevin (deceased), Brian, Stephen and Shawn.

Pat devoted herself to raising her family and volunteered her time at Pierce Elementary, St. Pius X and Regis High School. In 1980 she became involved with the first year of the Mercy Hospice program and contributed over 4,000 hours over 42 years of services. She was chosen and received recognition at the annual Show You Care banquet through KCRG in 2012. She concurrently volunteered her time with the National Kidney Foundation as well.

Pat loved bowling, walking, hiking, aerobics, Scrabble, Boggle, word/card games, all things Irish, coffee with her friends, church circle, Prairiewoods Wednesday Women, flowers, holding her beloved cat Fluffy, camping, music (Neil Diamond!), traveling and visiting family and friends. She was most known for her selfless gifts of her time and energy to those in need, family, friends and her faith.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and son, Kevin.

Pat is survived by her husband, Dennis; her three sons, Brian and Renee’, Arizona, Stephen and Andrea, Minnesota, and Shawn Day, Iowa; and her grandchildren, Kendall and Tyler Day, Arizona, and Alexis and Karina Day, Minnesota.

Special thanks to the outstanding care provided by the staff at Mercy Hall Perrine, Radiation and Hospice.

Cedar Memorial is serving the family. There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with Mass at 11 a.m. Burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery and lunch and gathering at St. Pius following services.

Memorial donations in Pat’s memory may be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
