Patricia Louise Bernhardt, 91, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Concordia Village. She was born May 13, 1931, in Quincy, the daughter of Charles Emmanuel and Nettie (Higgins) Thornton. She married James “Jim” A. Bernhardt on December 29, 1956 and he survives.
Also surviving are five children, Diane (Tom) Kratochvil of Metairie, LA, Michael Bernhardt of Montrose, CO, Kathy (George) Groesch of New Berlin, Peggy Collins of Tempe, AZ, and Judy (Chuck) Kitson of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Strankmeyer of Aurora and Sue (Gerald) Mast of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Thornton and Elizabeth “Betty” Hollenbeak; and brother, Roger Thornton.
After briefly living in Atlanta, GA, they returned to IL residing in Springfield until 1979 when they relocated to Decatur. Pat was an avid golfer and enjoyed the rolling hills of South Side CC, where Pat and Jim were members. They returned to Springfield in 2018 and resided at Concordia Village.
Patricia provided for her family as a homemaker and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Pat’s family would like to thank Concordia Village for their wonderful care.
Visitation: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Funeral Mass: 12:30 pm, Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeffery Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Village Scholarship Program.
