Patricia Ann Eckhardt, 84, died peacefully Friday, February 2, 2024 surrounded by her family.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 2:30 PM, Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. The Rev. Dr. Brent Hartwig will officiate.

A reception will be held Saturday, February 10, 2023 from 2-4 PM at Oaknoll Retirement Center on Benton Street. Parking will be available on George Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lutheran World Relief and Iowa City Hospice.

Patricia was born June 27, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Hermond and Catherine (Davis) Lacey. She was raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico. On May 29, 1961 Patricia married Pastor Bill (Wilfred) Eckhardt.

She received her BA in piano and art, and was honored with the Linden Scroll for academic achievement from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO. She went on to earn an MFA in Arts Management, an MA in Art History, and a PhD in Art History from the University of Iowa.

Patricia founded Eckhardt Research, which performed research for communities to ensure mindful placement of cell towers and their impact on historic buildings and neighborhoods. She also served as Chair of the Iowa City Board of Adjustment. She was a co-founder and served as president of Friends of Old Brick/Iowa City’s Friends of Historic Preservation, and served as president of the Iowa City Society of the Archaeological Institute of America. She also received awards of appreciation from two Governors for achievements in Iowa State Historic Preservation.

Patricia was a long-time member of the Cedar Rapids Literary Club where she made two presentations. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, involved in the Old Capital Quilters Guild, local French club, and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Patricia will be dearly missed by her husband, Pastor Bill, their daughter, Elizabeth Harris of Santa Fe, NM and their sons, Marcus Eckhardt (Suzanne) of Iowa City, IA and David Eckhardt (Pamela) of Phoenix, AZ; and grandchildren, Michael, Cole, and Joel; her brother, David Lacey (Lynda); and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
