Obituary: Mary Sokoloski

Heaven gained a beautiful, gracious and courageous angel in the passing of Mary Sokoloski on Sunday, September 11, 2022 after living with cancer for several years. Mary was a loving wife, devoted sister, nurturing aunt and cherished friend who is sorely missed by all. Her contagious smile and jovial laughter captured our hearts and left a lasting imprint of deep joy in the souls of all she touched.
Mary began her life in Colusa, CA on September 3,1957 as the sixth of eight children born to Carl and Angie McFarlane. The family soon moved to South Lake Tahoe where Mary attended St. Theresa’s Catholic School and South Lake Tahoe High School. As a child, Mary loved to play in the snow with her siblings, sledding and snow skiing. Summers you would find her boating and water skiing on Lake Tahoe. As an adult, she enjoyed spending time with family, most often, her niece Andrea Ingram Procaccini and her family and sisters Carla and Katie. She shared a special bond with her dear friend and soul sister Cheri Fletcher.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Angie McFarlane and several aunts and uncles. She was survived by her devoted husband, Keith Sokoloski and lived in Carson City, NV. Mary was survived by her siblings: Mike McFarlane and his wife Rhonda of Santa Barbara,CA, Bernadette Vilicich and her husband Eddie of Marshall, CA, Dan McFarlane and his wife Janice of Monterey, CA, Katie Jackson and her husband, Jeff of Gardenerville, NV, Carla McFarlane of Carson City, NV, Pat McFarlane of San Jose, CA, Tom McFarlane and his wife Janette of Reedley, CA and numerous, much loved nieces and nephews.
A Catholic service and mass in memory of Mary will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 3:00pm at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City, NV. On the following day, Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 10:00am, Mary will be laid to rest at the Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe, CA.
