Obituary for Richard Bruce Greenhalgh
- July 25, 2023
Richard “Bruce” Greenhalgh, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and eternal cowboy, passed away in Carson City on July 20, 2023.
He was the son of Alan and Irene Greenhalgh and spent the majority of his life in Nevada. He served in the Air Force as a radar operator in Finley, North Dakota and attended the University of Nevada, Reno. Bruce went on to serve the state honorably in numerous capacities, including as an NHP trooper, Chief Investigator for the Attorney General, Director of General Services, and Brand Inspector.
Bruce was a genuine Nevada cowboy and enjoyed many years as a member of the Carson City roping club, rounding up cattle on ranches throughout the Carson Valley, trail-riding through the Pine Nut mountains, and passing on his love for horses to his girls.
He played an essential role in planning, developing, and administrating the State of Nevada’s Estray Horse Program and overseeing the adoption of wild horses to the public at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center.
Bruce was a keen pool shark, a master craftsman, an avid fisherman, and a perpetual prankster. He taught us all that there is great strength in gentleness and great honor in kindness.
His generosity, wisdom, patience, and wit touched many, many people throughout the state and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Billie, daughter Beth Mammen, and grand-daughters Kelsey and Kyra Mammen.
