Nyle Albert Spalding, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023. A memorial service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lansing, Iowa, at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023. Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa. Cedar Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
Nyle was born Nov. 29, 1939, to Paul and Amanda (Darkow) Spalding in Wanda, Minn. He was also raised in Pomeroy, Iowa, and Clear Lake, Iowa. He married Barbara Knutson on June 13, 1964, in Lansing, Iowa.
He spent most of his career working for Amana Refrigeration as an International Credit Manager. He also volunteered for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the choir boosters at Jefferson High School. Nyle loved a good project and undertook many at his home. His fondest memories were of sailing with his family and friends in Clear Lake and cross-country skiing in Wisconsin. He loved watching football and was a member of the Cedar Rapids Packer Backers.
He is survived by his daughters, Amy (Michael) McCormick of Boulder, Colo., and Sara (Daniel) Miller of Oswego, Ill.; grandchildren, Kelton McCormick, Finnegan McCormick, Ava Miller and Max Miller; sisters, Maxyne (Bob) Gillice of Arvada, Colo., and Paulette (Arnie) Clare of Lake City, Minn.; sister-in-law, Helen (Norbert) Wurtzel of Eau Claire, Wis., and niece, Kris Church (Jason Tezloff) of Golden Valley, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and his parents.
