Nancy M. Barnhart
- March 19, 2021
Nancy Mueller Barnhart, formerly of Princeton, NJ and Chappaqua, NY passed away peacefully on March 18, 2021 at WindsorMeade in Williamsburg, VA. She was 96 years old. Born on February 1, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Ruth and Carl Mueller, she had one older brother Carl, who predeceased her in 2020. After graduating Wellesley College, she married Kenneth “Barney” Barnhart in 1947, who preceded her in death in 2008. Together, they raised three boys.
Nancy was a life-loving person who woke early to make the most of her day. Always eager to meet new people, she was at her proudest when she could introduce her sons and their wives and later grandchildren and great grandchildren to others. She was an avid golfer and bridge player with a streak of keen competitiveness. She painted, played bocce and participated in book clubs. She was very active and engaged with the programs and residents at the two senior communities she lived at namely Princeton Windrows in Princeton, NJ. and WindsorMeade in Williamsburg, VA. Always the adventurer, Nancy traveled to the corners of the globe. From the Great Wall of China to the plains of Africa. From the great capitals of Europe to the US National Parks. Nancy saw them all. But to Nancy the most memorable trips were the ones to see family. You see, if you looked up the definition of a “Great Mom or Grandma” you would find a picture of her there. Always even keeled, she will be missed by her family, friends and admirers. She comforted all of us when she said she had a wonderful life with no regrets.
Survivors include her children Kenneth Barnhart III and wife Nancy of Williamsburg, VA., Scott Barnhart and wife Ourania of Seattle, WA., Gary Barnhart and wife Barbara of Greenville, SC., her grandchildren Kenneth IV and great grandson Christopher Knight of Williamsburg, VA., Tommy and wife Ashley and great grandchildren Bryce, Kian, Luke and Graham of Martinsburg, WV., Katy Ruth and husband Chris of Denver, CO., Theodore and wife Metta and great grandchild Basile of Helena, MT.
The Barnhart Family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staff at WindsorMeade for its never ending care and compassion provided to Nancy during her 6 years at the community.
