Nancy L. Schlote, 90, of 518 7th Ave., Coralville, died peacefully on March 23, 2024, with her family by her side. There are no services planned. She chose to be cremated. Lensing Funeral Home is handling her arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the GoFundMe page or with Venmo in the name of Linda Schlote.

Nancy was born February 12, 1934, the daughter of Floyd and Greta (Polk) Mills in Iowa City. On March 29, 1951, Nancy Lee Mills married James Dennis Schlote in Sacramento, CA. Nancy worked for many years at Curt Yocum’s and Ming Gardens in Coralville, and later for the University of Iowa Athletic Club.

Nancy enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, gardening, quilting, sewing, reading, puzzles, video games, yard sales, and thrift stores. Nancy loved all her extended family, which also includes family pets. Her passion for cooking and gardening enriched not only her own life but also the lives of those around her. Indeed, Nancy’s home was a hub of joy, with family gatherings that overflowed with love and laughter. Nancy’s boundless energy was evident to all who knew her. She was always on the go, embodying the true essence of an active soul.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Linda Schlote of Coralville, one grandson John Schlote of Coralville and three great-grandchildren Crystal, Mitchell and Amanda, one sister Jean Ditchcreek, brother-in-law Steven L Schlote (Sandra), brother-in-law Theodore Schlote (Lynn).

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James Dennis, her parents Floyd and Greta Mills, grandson Steven M. Schlote, mother-in-law Kathryn and father-in-law Theodore R. Schlote, sister Joann Nowland and husband Jack Nowland, sister-in-law Mary K. Schlote (Neared), and brother-in-law John L. Schlote, and wife Florence.
