“Moe” Ralph E. Bright 90, of Atkins passed away on June 5, 2024, at Belle Plaine Specialty Care.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th St), with Pastor Douglas Woltemath officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM also at the funeral home. Interment will be held at St. Stephens Cemetery at a later date.

Moe was on born June 28, 1933, to John and Veder (Bishop) Bright in Milo, Missouri. He attended grade school in Walker, Missouri before moving to Vinton and graduating from Vinton High School. Following high school, Moe enlisted in the United States Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict.

He was united in marriage to Joanne Svejda (Simmer) on November 12, 1981, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Moe was a member of the Atkins American Legion Post 217 and a veteran of the Korean War. Following his service, he was employed by Wilson’s Foods until their closure in 1990. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin near Vinton with his family and friends, restoring old houses and bingo.

Moe is survived by his stepsons, Jeff Svejda of Atkins, and Steve (Tricia) Svejda of West Des Moines, also surviving are, Moe’s nieces and nephews, who all called him “Uncle Moe” and to this day, they still do, 5 step grandchildren, and 9 step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Joanne in 2013, sisters, Sylvia Bullock, Lidie Foust, Lula Withrow, Jean Cosipchack, and Bonnie Richards, brothers, Sam Bright, Buck Bright, and James Bright.
