We lost our beloved mother Millie Schreiner on June 27, 2021, after a short illness. Millie was one of ten children born to Raoul and Clarice Roy of Rumford, Maine. After graduating high school, Millie left Maine to pursue an education in Art at Adelphi University in New York City. It was there in NY that she met her first husband and together they had six children. In 1969, she met and married her second husband, and together they had one son. In their retirement, they moved to Saluda N.C. followed by a retirement community in Flat Rock, NC.
Millie was an avid reader and lover of all animals specifically horses and dogs. She bred and showed Quarter Horses in Long Island, NY. She owned many dogs throughout her life and enjoyed agility training in North Carolina. Mille was also a Jack of All Trades. Here are simply some of the many she was so awesome at: Mother, Grandmother, Bus Driver, Cook Baker, Medical Advisor, Painter, Sculptor, Seamstress, Hair Dresser, Groomer, Farmer, Gardner, Landscaper, Lumber Jack, Hiker, Outdoorswoman, Clogger, Bowler, Card Shark, Lumber, Crossworder, Story Teller, Clown, and Comedian; however, she found her true passion late in life as a Variety Show Entertainer. She was a singer (eh), dancer, director, costume designer, and writer!
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Joseph Schreiner, her brothers (Rob, Ray, Gene Joe, and Billy), and her sisters (Vivian Morgan and Anette King).
She is survived by her sisters Julie McInnes and Jeanine Duffy (Frank), children Gwen Dowsey Jennie Forrestal (Rory) Denise Serrano Jay Dowsey (Ann) Bill Dowsey Brian Dowsey, and Nicholas Schreiner
Grandchildren Courtney, Jay, Matthew, Christopher, Laura, Michelle
Rory Ryan Meaghan(Neil) Rick (Tara) Kristen Zach Michael and Kyle
Great Grandchildren Sophia, Giovanna, Isabelle, Sloane, Harrison, and Emma
But most of all her beloved miniature fox terrier PIPER!!!
A memorial service will be held at Shuler Funeral Home 125 Orrs Road Hendersonville at 2 pm Thursday, July 1, 2021. Reception to follow 4 pm Community Center Spring Hill Retirement community Flat Rock.
