Mildred Lovegrove Staton

Mildred Lovegrove Staton, age 99, of Scotland Neck, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022, at the Bryan Health and Rehab.

 

Mildred was born on January 9, 1923, to Thurman Elmo and Nannie Walker Lovegrove in Halifax County. Mildred was an elder and a lifetime member of Nahalah Presbyterian Church. She served twenty-five years with the Scotland Neck Volunteer Rescue Squad where she was awarded a plaque for her devoted service. Mildred loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that affectionately called her “Granny”, as did many people that knew her in Scotland Neck. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to those that knew her. Granny will be truly missed.

 

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands George Howard Sorie, Sr. and W. R. “Pete” Staton, her son, Ronald Lee Staton, a daughter-in-law, Mary Staton, a granddaughter-in-law, Kim Hale, and two sisters, Margaret Henderson and Hattie Davis.

 

She is survived by to two sons, George H. Sorie and his wife Bettie of Merritt Island, FL, Randy Staton of Scotland Neck; a daughter, Nancy Staton James and her husband Eddie of Robersonville; a daughter-in-law, Polly Staton of Scotland Neck; 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, Grant Staton, his wife Susan and their children Matthew, Jessica, and Savanna all of Scotland Neck, Davie Hale, his wife April of Greenville, and his daughter Hannah of Everett, Patrick Staton, his wife Amber, and their children Samantha, Zachary, Joey, Logan and Will all of Scotland Neck, Mandy Staton Hasty, her husband John and their son Caleb of Kernersville, Sugar Hale Edwards, her husband Jason and their children Katherine, James and Luke of Rocky Mount, West Hale, his wife Ashleigh, and their children Pete, Mack, and Evie all of Rocky Mount, Emily Hale, her significant other James Roebuck and her children Lily and Grady all of Robersonville and she leaves behind many nieces and nephews and friends that became her family.

 

There will be a Celebration of Life Graveside service on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at 11:00AM at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck with Rev. Steve Herring officiating the service.  The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
