Meagan Elizabeth (Clark) Russell, 41, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Meagan was born on June 1, 1982, in Iowa City, the daughter of Steven and Mary Clark. She graduated from Solon High School in 2001 and, following high school, obtained an associate of business and finance degree. She worked in the medical field, providing billing and accounting services to nursing homes in Iowa. On Dec. 12, 2012, she married Jason Russell in Mount Vernon. In 2021, she left the formal workforce to raise her three children.
Family and friends were central to Meagan’s life. While on the surface, she appeared quiet, Meagan was always up for adventures – be it back-up singing for a band, traveling, attending concerts, or singing karaoke. She had a sharp wit, loving heart, and supportive soul. She was an avid and fierce advocate for social justice and uplifting the voices of others that needed support.
Survivors include her husband, Jason; parents, Steve and Mary (Mason) Clark; children, Quinn, Piper and Jacob; sisters, Stephanie Clark and Samantha (John) Zehms; niece, Gretta; nephews, Adam, Erik and Kevin; grandmother-in-law, Ruth Goss; mother-in-law, Connie Russell; sisters-in-law, Amber (Matt) Lee and Shea Russell; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jake and Marcella (Brannaman) Clark and Chiles and Ethel (Vrchoticky) Mason; and her father-in-law, Michael Russell.
