Maynard “Whimp” Edward Rogers, 83, died Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
Family committal services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Coralville. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
Maynard was born April 24,1941 in Iowa City, the son of Elmer and Velma (Frantz) Rogers. On December 2,1961 Maynard married Colleen McDermott. He served in the US Army Medical Corps.
Maynard was a 1959 graduate of Regina High School, where he was an accomplished athlete, especially in basketball. Maynard was employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center for over 32 years, retiring in 1991.
Maynard was an avid Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed celebrating with a Busch Light.
Most important to Maynard was his wife and family, especially his grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Progressive Rehab in Coralville, Oncology and Radiation Oncology at UIHC, Lantern Park Care Center, and Iowa City Hospice.
Maynard is survived by his son, Gary (Diane) Rogers of Iowa City and his daughter, Diane (John) Madsen of Coralville; sisters-in-law, Jane Corso, Mary Ellen Rogers and Esther Rogers; grandchildren, Ryan (Holly) Rogers, Collin Rogers, Emily (Eric) Schlote, Neil (Kelly) Madsen, and Mallory (Zane) Zitek; great grandchildren, Kaelynn and Kacen Cochran, Rylee Rogers, Baby Zitek, Addison, Ella, and Zachary Schlote; and numerous extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2019; brothers, Kenneth and Larry and sister, Joan Rogers; infant great grandson, Kaden Cochran and great grandchild Zitek, and brother-in-law, Bob Corso.
