Mary Virginia “Ginger” Burke, 93, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Coggon, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at The Villages in Marion. She was born on Nov. 21, 1930, in Grinnell, the daughter of Charles and Marguerite (Jones) Lawler. Ginger was raised and educated in the Parnell area and was a graduate of Parnell High School. Ginger graduated from Ottumwa Heights College in 1950 earning her teaching certificate. Her first teaching job was in Walford, where she met her future husband at a dance.

Survivors include her four children, Hank (Jane) Burke of San Clemente, California, Mick (Beverly) Burke of Walker, Janet Weekly of Walker, and Annette (Jerry) Slattery of Winthrop; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet (Jerry) Bush of Iowa City; and several nieces and nephews.

Ginger was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill in 2018; sister, Frances (Abel) Furmento; and son-in-law, Randy Weekly.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monti, Iowa, with Rev. Jim Brokman officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church Hall, in Monti, Iowa. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Interment: St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery – Monti, Iowa
