Mary Mildred Lewis, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, at Central Church of Christ, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the church. Burial: 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Bethel Cemetery, Eddyville, Iowa. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Mary was born September 11, 1941, in Unionville, Iowa, the daughter of Sam and Mary Mildred (Shank) Proctor. She graduated from Moravia High School. Mary was united in marriage to Donald V. Lewis on April 28, 1963, at Union Chapel Church. She earned her nursing degree from St. Joseph’s in Ottumwa, Iowa, and devoted her career as a Registered Nurse to caring for others in the maternity ward at St. Luke’s Hospital. Mary’s commitment to helping others went beyond her professional life, as she also volunteered her time at St. Luke’s Hospital and Meth-Wick.
Survivors include her children, Tim Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Greg (Deborah) Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Marcy (Bill) Johanningmeier of LaPorte City, Iowa; grandchildren, Trey (Bethany), Courtney (Caleb), Ren, Lauren, Emily (Dylan), Allison (Alan), and Daniel; six great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Proctor; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Ann; her parents, Sam and Mary Proctor; husband, Donald V. Lewis; and three brothers.
