Mary Margaret Johnston, 79, of Marion, died Tuesday July 16, 2024, from a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday July 22, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Ivan Neinhaus. Inurnment: Rising Sun, Wisconsin at a later date.

Mary was born on February 17, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Prouty) Crowley. Mary was raised in the Plain and Loretto, Wisconsin area. She graduated from Riverview High School. She married Jack Tredinnick in June 1964, they divorced in 1978. She married Gregory Johnston on September 4, 1982, in Loretto, Wisconsin. Mary was a sales manager for U.S. Tobacco. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids and was highly involved in church activities. She enjoyed traveling, baking, reading, assisting priests organizing trips to religious sites in Europe and Israel. Her heart was in the Holy Land. Most of all, she relished the time with her family.

Mary is survived by her husband of 41 years, Gregory V. Johnston, her children, Rich Tredinnick of Westby, Wisconsin, Robert Tredinnick of Emerald, Wisconsin and Krista Dockery of Fresno, Texas, her grandchildren, John, Ryan, Shawn, Alexis, Keegan, Karsen and Rileigh and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Richard Johnston, William Johnston, Roger Johnston and sisters-in-law Marilyn Ketterlin, Madonna Pralle and Kaydee Close.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, John and Dennis Crowley, brother-in-law, Michael Johnston, sisters-in-law, Rita Johnston and Darlene Joyce Johnston.

Upon retirement Mary found her true vocation-helping priests organize pilgrimages and handling logistics during the trips. They worked with 206, a catholic focused tour company. Mary Also traveled extensively with her husband to many foreign and US locations by plane, car, bus and ship.

Mary was famous for her brownies. A huge sheet pan of brownies was a welcome sight by friends and family at special and not so special events.

Mary was a devout Catholic, Father Neinhaus noted that if Mass was at 8 am, Mary was in the church at 6:30 praying. She loved people, especially those struggling with life. She donated time, money and goods to charities helping them.

She was blessed with many long-time special friends, Colleen Flannigan, Tracy Warren, Dan and Joan Hackbarth.

She was privileged to work with Father Neinhaus for many years and he was her spiritual director.
