Mary Louise Jones

On Friday April 2nd, 2021 at 1:20 a.m., Mary Louise Jones, loving wife, and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 89.
Lou was born on November 9th, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Emmet and Jimmy (Leach) Hodges. She graduated from Bartlett High School in Bartlett, Tennessee and went on to continue her education at the University of Maryland, pursuing a psychology degree. She used her knowledge of psychology to work as the Executive Secretary for the Washington Pastoral Counseling Service for ten years.
Lou was married to Rufus William Jones Jr., on August 15th, 1953 and were married for 67 years. They went on to raise two sons and one daughter, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter.
Lou had a passion for art, particularly painting and ceramics. She received many awards for her beautiful scenery paintings and ceramic pieces. She had a love for fashion, reading (especially with her book club), and traveling all around the world. She always used to say that her favorite place to be, was “wherever we were,” meaning her and her husband. She also loved creating beautiful flower arrangements. She was known for her beautiful, infectious smile, strong-willed, independent personality, compassionate soul and spirit, and the love she had for her family.
Lou was preceded in death by her father Emmett, mother Jimmy, and brother Emmett. She is survived by her husband, Rufus William Jones Jr., sons Michael (Susan), David (Margie), and daughter Toya (Jeff), grandchildren, Sarah, Maura (Steve), Hailey, Tyler, Michelle (Shane), Sam, Lauren (David), Carrie (Tim), Dominick, Joseph (Rachael), Nathan (Dorelyn) and Kylie, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter.
A viewing service will be held at 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 10th, 2021, at Bucktrout of Williamsburg funeral home 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188.
