Mary L. Moore Folder

Mary L. Moore Folder, 84, of Springfield, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Chatham, IL. She was born March 22, 1936 in Springfield, IL to John P. and Sophia H. (Brunner) Moore. She married Robert L. “Bob” Folder on October 5, 1958, and he preceded her in death on November 6, 2014.

She is survived by two sons, Todd R. Folder of Springfield and Grant D. Folder of Chatham; one sister-in-law, Helen Moore of Buffalo and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John L. Moore and Wayne P. Moore, and a sister June K. Dobbs, as well as four brothers-in-law; Richard, John, Jim, and Mike Folder, and four sisters-in-law; Phyllis Folder, Rose Powell, Ruth Ann Richards, and Alice Griffith.

Mary was born on the family farm in Gardner Township that was settled by her Great Grandfather, John Moore in the early 1860’s. She attended grade school at the Hazlett School (a one room schoolhouse located on what is now Hazlett Road). She graduated as valedictorian of the Pleasant Plains High School Class of 1954.

She was a homemaker and co-owner with her husband of Bob Folder Lures. Mary spent her life working alongside her husband, manufacturing fishing flies and lures, and traveling throughout the Midwest exhibiting their products.

She enjoyed garage sales, flea markets, cats and kittens, trips to Amish Country in Arthur, Illinois, and visiting with friends at the Gardener Township Golden Club.

Mary was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 18, 2020 at Farmington Cemetery with Pastor Thomas Krieger officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League or Grace Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
