Mary Hill Cleveland

Mary Hill Cleveland, 86, of Hendersonville, NC, peacefully passed away April 22, 2022.

A lifelong native of Henderson County, Mary was born to the late John Blythe Hill and Ida Mae Bright Hill; she was also predeceased by her beloved husband Douglas Wade Cleveland; brother John Blythe Hill, Jr., and sisters Betty Florence Bishop and Emily Elaine Baker.

After serving for several years, Mary retired as the word’s funniest lunch lady. In Mary’s free time she found enjoyment in gardening, reading, cooking, and crocheting. She loved her family and took great pride in caring for them; Mary’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very precious to her. Animals were also special to Mary. She never missed an opportunity to spoil her fur babies.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her loving children Mary Ann Landry of Charlotte, Julie Michelle Cleveland (Amanda) of Hendersonville, and Douglas Ray Cleveland (Rebecca) of Salisbury; cherished grandchildren Christopher Wade Landry of Spencer, Lauren Landry Funderburk of Readyville, TN, Benjamin Douglas Cleveland of Salisbury, Stephanie Ann Landry of Charlotte, and Ryan Scott Cleveland of Statesville; and her darling great-grandchildren Sean Elijah Funderburk, Noah Dillan Funderburk, Lily Jane Funderburk, Crystal Taylor Cleveland, Dominik Ryan Cleveland, Riley Marie Cleveland and Zaylee Anne Cleveland. Mary also leaves behind her siblings Louise Spurlin of Maiden, Charles “Lee” Hill of Flat Rock, Ann Gilliam of Hendersonville, Priscilla Wyatt of West Minister, SC, Donald “Donnie” Hill and Paul Hill of FL.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 30^th, 2022, in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home in Hendersonville, NC, with Rev. Randal Hill officiating; with a visitation one hour prior.
