Mary Ellen Newcomb Ritchie, 91 of Cedar Rapids, died from natural causes at her home on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023. Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023 at Teahen Funeral Home. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Mary is survived by seven children, Kathy (Mike) Corbett, Bill (Cathy) Newcomb, Tom Newcomb, Janice (Bill) Miller, all of Cedar Rapids, Andrea Newgaard of Center Point, Laura (Brian) Walker of Marion and Jack (Anita) Ritchie of Cedar Rapids; sister Dorothy Jean Enfield; many grandchildren; great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, first husband, William Newcomb, son, Tim Newcomb; and daughter, Patsy Koehn.
Mary was born on Nov. 25, 1931 in Custer County, Okla., daughter of Criss and Annie Gingerich Miller. She married William Newcomb and he passed away in 1968. She then married Tom Ritchie and they later divorced.
Mary was an excellent cook and worked many years at Johnny’s Parkway. She enjoyed gardening, reading books, crocheting and working puzzles. Mary was a huge fan of John Wayne and Andy Williams and loved watching old westerns. Above all, Mary enjoyed spending time with her family.
